Local Area Information
Bacton is situated on the North East Norfolk coast and is an ideal place for walking, cycling and exploring. The area is close to where man first established a settlement at the nearby village of Happisburgh (pronounced Hazbruh) . Here ancient footsteps have been found on the beach.
The village itself was once home to Bacton Abbey (more correctly known as Bromholm Priory) founded in 1113 by William de Glanville and housed the Cluniac order. Dissolved in 1536 only a few ruins still remain, such as the gatehouse, Chapter House, and the northern transept of the Priory Church. Close by the cottage is the beach, Oriental Garden Restaurant, Bacton Superstore, Sugar and Spice Cafe, and Bacton Fish and Chip shop. A walk of 20 minutes (or 5 min drive) along the promenade will bring you to the Poacher's Pocket pub. famous for their Sunday Carvery.
The Paston Way path passes by the cottage. This path links up with others in Norfolk, more detail can be found on the interactive trails website from Norfolk County Council.
For the Golf lover there is a nine hole course nearby in Mundesley and a little further away are 18 hole courses at Royal Cromer and Sheringham, with another nine hole course in West Runton .
